AGIC Capital has assembled a strong team of industry and investment experts defined by its deep private equity experience, multicultural and multilingual nature, and its combination of solid financial expertise and in-depth knowledge regarding the issues facing entrepreneurs. The different teams, working from offices in Hong Kong, Munich, Shanghai, Beijing and London maintain constant communication, allowing for a clear and efficient decision-making process in order to deal with day-to-day issues relating to AGIC’s portfolio companies and the management of investments.
Henry Cai – Chairman
Mr. Henry Cai is the Chairman and Founding Partner of AGIC.
Prior to establishing AGIC, he served as the Executive Chairman of Investment Banking Asia Pacific at Deutsche Bank and the Chairman of UBS AG’s Asia investment banking unit.
He has actively contributed to and played a significant role in shaping the development of Hong Kong capital market since early 1990s, and was regarded by many in the fields as the “Grandfather” of overseas listings by private Chinese companies for his milestone work in helping businesses like Alibaba, Foxconn, BYD and AIA list in Hong Kong. During his professional career with leading European investment banks, Henry advised more than 100 companies – including many that have since become a Fortune 500 company — on their business model, strategic development, investment and initial public offerings in Hong Kong and the United States.
Henry graduated from Fudan University.
Heiko von Dewitz – Partner / Head of Germany
Prior to co-founding AGIC, Mr. von Dewitz served as an Investment Director with Intel Capital for 13 years, with responsibility for all investment activities in Western Europe and Israel. Before Intel Capital, he was a consultant with A. T. Kearney for nearly four years, where he specialized in High-Tech and Telecommunications. He holds an MBA from INSEAD and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the Technical University of Munich, where he has also been a guest lecturer.
Edward Yuan – Managing Director
Prior to AGIC, Mr. Yuan worked for Baring Private Equity Asia (BPEA) for 10 years and co-led several successful cross-border investments including Weetabix Food Company (together with Bright Food Group) and Giant Interactive (previously NYSE: GA, now SZSE:002558).
Before BPEA, Mr. Yuan worked at Morgan Stanley Private Equity Asia and A.T. Kearney in Hong Kong and Shanghai.
Edward holds a B.E. of Automation from Tsinghua University in Beijing.
Erik Yankulin – Managing Director
Prior to joining AGIC, Mr. Yankulin was a Vice President with One Equity Partners, the private equity investment arm of JPMorgan Chase, with whom he spent five years working in Frankfurt and Hong Kong.
He began his career in Mergers & Acquisitions at Rothschild in Frankfurt, where he was employed for three years.
Mr. Yankulin is fluent in German, English, and Russian. He studied at the University of Cologne as well as the University of North Carolina and holds a diploma in Business Administration.
Jeffry Wu – Managing Director / Head of Global Healthcare Investments
Mr. Jeffry Wu is Managing Director in charge of global healthcare investments at AGIC. Prior to joining AGIC, he worked as Principal of Venture Investments at Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation and Managing Director at Milestone Capital, responsible for cross-border healthcare investments and post-investment management. He also served as board members of several international biopharmaceutical and medical device companies.
Jeffry has over 20 years of global healthcare investment and cross-cultural experiences. He graduated from University of Science & Technology of China and holds a PhD degree in Neurobiology from College of Physicians & Surgeons at Columbia University and an MBA degree from INSEAD. He has been a CFA charterholder since 2007.
Johnny Wang – Managing Director
Mr. Johnny Wang is Managing Director in charge of Post Investment Management at AGIC.
Prior to AGIC, Mr. Wang was vice president and general manager of Gerber Asia Pacific. Before joining Gerber in 2012, he served as general manager of GE Energy’s Industrial Solutions business in Greater China. Before this, Mr. Wang was chief marketing officer of the GE Consumer and Industrial business in Asia Pacific and Regional General manager for GE Plastics’ business in China. In total, he was employed by GE for 17 years. Earlier in his career, Mr. Wang worked for Husky Injection Molding Systems as general manager of Greater China and Marketing director of Asia Pacific.
Mr. Wang holds an MBA from U.K.’s Strathclyde University.
Linus Lenhard – Director
Prior to joining AGIC, Mr. Lenhard was an Investment Manager at Ambienta, a pan-European private equity firm for three years.
Prior to Ambienta, he worked in the Munich office of EQT Partners, a global private equity firm, for more than four years and at Allianz Global Investors, where he focused on investments in listed European small/mid-cap companies.
He holds a Diploma from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in industrial engineering and business administration and a Master of Science in Finance from the Universidad Politecnica de Catalunya / Escuela de Administracion de Empresas.
Emil Xie – Director
Before joining AGIC, Mr. Xie was an Associate Director with Ernst & Young Transaction Services as for more than seven years. As a core member of Ernst & Young China’s cross-border Transaction Services team, he was primarily involved in the outbound transactions in the German speaking region.
Prior to joining Ernst & Young, Mr. Xie worked as a project manager in KPMG’s transaction department, where he actively supported German clients in their investments in China. Mr. Xie started his career as an auditor at PwC.
Mr. Xie holds an Finance MBA from CEIBS, and is a CFA charter holder, ICAEW Chartered Accountant, and member of HKICPA and CICPA. He is fluent in German.
Ben Mitchell – Director
Prior to joining AGIC, Mr. Mitchell worked at PwC Corporate Finance with 10 years’ experience in Mergers & Acquisitions. He gained a deep understanding of the Industrial Manufacturing and Services sector, and had also worked across numerous other sectors including Retail, Technology, Oil & Gas and Leisure. He also worked at BAE Systems and gained 3 years of industry experience.
Mr. Mitchell holds a Master degree in Mechanical Engineering from Nottingham University and is an ICAEW Chartered Accountant.
Xinrong Kang – Vice President
Mr. Kang worked for DaimlerChrysler, where he was responsible for development of Chrysler’s Asia-Pacific headquarters. Prior to joining DaimlerChrysler, Mr. Kang was responsible for business development at MTR Corporation, a global railway operator.
Before that, he was employed by a German machinery company being responsible for its business development in China.
Mr. Kang holds a bachelor’s degree in Commerce and Economy from Wuhan University and an Executive MBA from Steinbeis-Hochschule Berlin. He is fluent in German.
Benoit Boisseuil – Vice President
Mr. Boisseuil joined in 2018 the London office bringing more than 10 years of work experience as strategy consultant, private equity investor and M&A banker, most recently at Morgan Stanley in the investment banking division for three years. At Morgan Stanley, he focused on Mergers & Acquisitions, Leveraged Buyouts and IPOs within the Energy team. Prior to that, he worked as Engagement Manager at Corporate Value Associates focusing on CEO-level strategic assignments in the energy & industrials sectors and commercial due diligences for private equity firms based out of Paris, Shanghai and London.
French national, he is coordinating the AGIC France coverage. He speaks French, English, Mandarin and Russian.
Benoit holds an MBA from London Business School, a Diplôme de Grande Ecole from Ecole Centrale (Lyon) in France and Business Mandarin certification from East China Normal University (Shanghai).
Cathy Duan-Plainer – Vice President
Prior to joining AGIC, Ms. Duan-Plainer worked in the German Investment Banking Division of Goldman Sachs, where she was involved in various M&A and capital market transactions in the German-speaking region.
Ms. Duan-Plainer holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from University of Mannheim, Germany, and graduated with two master’s degrees in Management from University of Mannheim, Germany, and in International Business from Queen’s University, Canada.
Luke Chen – Vice President
Prior to joining AGIC, Mr. Chen worked in the Investment Banking Division of Credit Suisse in New York, where he has involved in various leveraged buyouts, M&A advisory, equity offering and debt financing transactions.
Mr. Chen graduated from Brown University with a B.A. in Applied Mathematics and Economics.
Adam Zhang – Associate
Prior to joining AGIC, Mr. Zhang was an associate at EQT Partners and participated in the full deal cycle from deal sourcing, execution and post-investment management, focusing on healthcare and education sectors. He also worked for Citi Orient for close to 3 years, advising listed companies and private companies on IPO, refinancing, equity financing and debt financing.
Mr. Zhang holds a Master’s degree in Finance and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Fudan University.
Stefan Engelhardt – Associate
Prior to joining AGIC, Mr. Engelhardt worked as a consultant with Bain & Company for more than four years where he focused on Private Equity Advisory conducting commercial due diligences across various industries. In addition, he was involved in strategic post-acquisition and organization work.
Mr. Engelhardt has studied at University of Mannheim, Auckland University of Technology as well as Queen’s University. He holds a Bachelor and a Master of Science in Business Administration.
Matthias Schiessl – Associate
Prior to joining AGIC, Mr. Schiessl worked for IK Investment Partners as an Investment Associate for more than two years. During his tenure with IK, he participated in the full deal cycle from deal sourcing, execution and post-investment portfolio management, focusing mostly on the industrial and business services sectors. In addition, he was involved in supporting portfolio Companies on strategic projects such as add-on acquisitions. He also worked for UniCredit’s Financial Sponsor Solutions Group in Munich and London, providing Private Equity Sponsors with debt financings for buyouts.
Mr. Schiessl graduated from the University of Passau with a B.Sc. in Finance and Economics.
Global Infrastructure Team
Jean Zheng – Managing Director/CFO
Ms. Zheng was employed by Ernst & Young for more than 13 years and was the audit partner of Ernst & Young China. She was a founding partner of Ernst & Young China’s accounting compliance and reporting services and has helped multinational companies build and grow their accounting shared-service centers in China.
Ms. Zheng holds a bachelor’s degree from Shanghai Jiaotong University and is a member of the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Xin Cheng – General Counsel
Ms. Cheng is the General Legal Counsel of Agic. Prior to Agic, Ms. Cheng worked as Senior Legal Counsel with Abax Global Capital and Senior Legal Director with Fosun Group, where she was responsible for advising on legal matters relating to both cross border and domestic private equity and debt investments, portfolio management across a wide range of industries and fund compliance. Prior to this, Ms. Cheng had worked as an Associate with an international firm Allen & Overy in its Hong Kong office for four years and worked as an Associate with a reputable PRC law firm Haiwen & Partners in its Beijing Office for three years.
Ms. Cheng holds a Bachelor of Law degree from Renmin University of China, a Master of Law degree from Peking University and a LLM degree from Columbia Law School. Ms. Cheng is qualified in both PRC and State of New York.
Dennis Ding – Finance Senior Manager
Prior to joining AGIC, Mr. Ding worked at Ernst&Young for more than 8 years and was audit manager of Ernst&Young China. He has helped several Chinese private companies to be successfully listed in Hong Kong and NYSE. He gained rich experience in manufacturing, retail, healthcare and advertising industry.
Mr. Ding holds two bachelors’ degree in Management and Economics from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. He is a member of the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Nicky Wang – Investor Relations Manager
Prior to Joining AGIC, Ms. Wang worked at Hillhouse Capital’s Public Affairs and Strategy Development Department, where she focused on media communications and provided professional assistance to the investment and portfolio management teams. Before that, she was a senior staff writer with Caixin Media’s English-language publications and a founding member of Caixin Global.
Ms. Wang graduated with a master’s degree from University of Denver’s Josef Korbel School of International Studies, and holds a bachelor’s degree in Management Information System from University of International Relations, China.
Alla Budnichenko–Global Head of Administration
Ms. Budnichenko joined AGIC in 2015 with the opening of the Munich office.
Prior to joining AGIC she served for 6 years as an executive assistant to the management board and operations manager at Ballroom International GmbH, a subsidiary of Ströer Media SE. She was responsible for communication and operational processes in the portfolio companies within Eastern Europe and Turkey.
Before that, she worked in the hotel management at Starwood hotels and resorts.
Ms. Budnichenko is fluent in German, English, Russian and Ukrainian. She studied at the National Taras-Shevchenko University in Kyiv, Ukraine and holds a diploma in germanistic languages.
